Oregon in the USA

T

aking a look at the heart and soul of Oregon's history - from Lewis and Clark and the Oregon Trail, to the native Americans and the real essence of the Wild West - the working ranch and the rodeo! In this episode we take a look at the cradle of Western history.

The flavour of the true "Old West" is still alive and kicking. In fact the ghosts of long-gone cowboys still haunt the bleachers of todays fast and frantic rodeos! The excitment, colour and bravery, and of course - the pain! We visit the Tamástslikt Cultural Institute, The Museum at Warm Springs, shop at Hamley's, and visit Baker City Old Town.

Episode 02 - Real West

O

Travel Oregon Logoregon is the Real West. Many sovereign tribes represent Oregon’s first citizens and examples of their history can be found at the Portland Art Museum. The Lewis and Clark expedition from 1805 to 1806 depicted the land of bounty that became the Oregon Territory. This led to the pioneer immigration West on the Oregon Trail ending their journey in the fertile lands of the Willamette Valley.

At the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, you will see covered wagon ruts left by those early pioneers. People say the pioneer spirit that made it possible for these settlers to overcome hardship and adversities still lives on in Oregon today. The Oregon Real West traditions still exist among the cowboys, the ranchers, and the farmers.

To be a part of the Real West, you have to go to the rodeo. Pendleton Round-Up or the Mollala Buckeroo, are just two of the best. Go underground to see a culture hidden from the rest of the world at night. Visit two of Oregon’s Native American museums : Támastslikt Cultural Institute and The Museum at Warm Springs. Experience riding horses on Wilson Ranches Retreat Bed and Breakfast. Fly Fish on the Deschuttes. Visit Baker City, to see a slice of the Oregon Western culture. Check out the hand tooled Western saddles at Hamley and Company , or buy your first real cowboy boots there.

It's a Winner!
